Today we rode the Microwave and put our hand warmers to the test.
At the parking lot we had blue skies and headed towards Sinclair but quickly turned around as 5km into the ride the storm snow started getting significantly shallower.
The Microwave had 30-40 cm of fresh snow and the upper section of the trail had been fully covered by wind scoops.
Moderate to strong East winds were blowing all day, building wind slabs in lee terrain and scouring anything exposed, down to the Jan 26 melt freeze crust. This crust is down 50cm and measured at 20cm thick.
In testing we had no results on our extended column test however got moderate results in a compression test on 1mm facets atop the Jan 26 melt freeze crust down 50cm.
Great day out packing some powder but it was a frigid one!
