Do you enjoy sunny skies, great groomed trails and unparalleled views? If so, Atlas was on point today. (shout out to Crowsnow riders for the smooth ride ) Those with a keen eye could also still see large crowns visible from last week’s avalanche cycle. If powder snow is more your jam….not today friends, not today. Wind affected snow and ice crusty conditions were the mainstay in any open areas. We even tried to do some sled ski laps in the trees, hoping sheltered terrain would still yield soft snow, but the insidious wind had reached its tentacles deep into the forest. Skiing was marginal at best. Do your snow dance Alberta…and get the avalanche forecast before your next ride.
Propagation saw test in the depth hoar above the early December crust failed at 70/100.
