Canoe Peak

We climbed Canoe Peak and brought snowshoes in case needed but only used crampons and ice axe. Ascended north face and descended south face. Snow surface was extremely hard packed icy on all shaded aspects. Surface was softened over a deep hard crust where sun exposed. We descended via south facing route and snow was sun softened. Observed remnants of older wet avalanches on both sides of mountain.

Hard packed/icy with deep firm crust on north and shaded aspects. Sun softened on south aspects with shallow penetration in alpine and shallow to deep penetration at tree line.
