We did the Bijoux–Mount West loop today and the snow conditions were rough. This area took a lot of rain earlier in the week, leaving behind a rock-hard crust, lots of avalanche debris, and widespread rain runnels that made travel pretty unpleasant. The overnight refreeze has really locked things in place. To add to the fun, a lake likely formed at the headwaters of the Pine River during the rain event, then let go—blowing out the river banks and taking out the snow bridge on the transmission line road. Great day for type 2 fun!
