We went to the very south of the BC Rockies today in the Galton Range. At 1700 m we found 100 cm of snow with the top half being settled snow and new snow on top. The bottom half was large sugary snow (facets) and a thin weak crust up about 30 cm. It definitely raised the alarm, so we dug down and did some tests. We had 2 extended column tests fail and indicate instability but another 4 with no result. We found some small, steep slopes to sled cut and had no results. With a bit of uncertainty we stuck to low angle terrain and had amazing riding! No natural avalanches observed.
