We did a morning mitigation route throwing 8, 2 lb shots. We threw one shot on Chute 3 (9200ft ENE aspect 40 degree slope) and triggered a small D1 avalanche 20cm deep on new snow. We threw one shot and did 4 ski cuts on chute 4 (9200ft ENE aspect 38 degree slope) nothing moved. We threw one shot and 4 ski cuts on Chute 5 (9200ft ENE aspect 38 degrees) and nothing moved. We threw three shots and put 4 ski cuts on the saddle between peaks 1 and 2 (8800 ft NE aspect 40 to 36 degrees) and nothing moved. We threw one shot on Big Bowl (9400ft E aspect 38 degrees) and nothing moved. Finally We threw one shot on the short trees east of the saddle (8800ft N aspect 38 degrees) and nothing moved. We experienced some cracking 20 cm deep at upper elevations but nothing that shot out in front of skis, only below. In our snow pits we saw reactivity at 20-30 cm on new snow/old snow interface, and some instability on deeper layers, including the basal facets, which are beginning to round.
Avalanche
This morning we triggered a small , D1 R1 avalanche on Chute 3, east aspect at 9200 ft. 40 degree slope, with 2lb explosive. Size was 20 cm deep, 3 meters across and ran for 50 meters.
