Quick report
Skied two lines from about 9600’ to 6500’ in the Heavenly backcountry today, one on a SE aspect, and one on a NE aspect. Consistent cloud cover caused significant green housing, and there were also above freezing air temperatures. As a result, we found moist to wet snow on all aspects and elevations up to 9600’, with no cold, dry snow remaining anywhere. On our descent, we pushed lots of sizable pinwheels, up to 3’ in diameter, but these didn’t entrain any further snow, even in terrain up to 40 degrees. We did observe several debris piles from loose wet avalanches that had originated in steep, rocky terrain, including one that seemed fairly recent. We started to get sprinkled on at 1130 at 9600’, and this continued throughout the rest of our tour.
