Quick report
We toured up and over castle peak into the north bowl and adjacent drainages. There were a variety of snow surfaces on different aspects. It was warmer today than it has been since the storm and trees were shedding snow significantly effecting ski quality in areas exposed to the sun. The east wind event seems to have compressed exposed faces but there wasn’t much evidence of extensive scouring on northerly aspects. Softer snow existed in sheltered terrain above 7,000ft. On a NW aspect at 8000 ft the HS was 160 cm, boot pen was 35 cm and ski pen was 10 cm. Surface hoar had formed in open areas and settlement cones were visible in treed areas. No signs of instability were observed.
