Quick report
TL;DR: Snow appeared stable, no obvious concerns. Went up the N ridge of the NE Bowl. Left parking lot at 7am. S facing aspects were sun baked and crusty. Snow on N facing aspects was a little heavy below 7500 feet. Pretty powdery above. At around 8800 feet, ~400 feet below the ridge the snow appeared a little wind affected. Was concerned about a slab but found nothing concerning with mit pit test. If there was a slab it seems well bonded. Noticed a thin (1”) sun crust in some spots. Just underneath the ridge it seemed like there was evidence of a bit more wind loading. Was easy to avoid so not concerning. See pictures. Saw lots of wind loading on the W side of Tallac. Consistent with recent wind direction. We ended up going into the cross from the side entrance. Was lots of fresh snow only concerns was mild sluff management for party of 2. Again no cracking or obvious concerns. Did notice some cornices developing at top of main drop in. After the couloir there was lots of fresh turns. No cracking or slabs were triggered. Was almost no wind all day. Was getting quite toasty by the time we started descending around 9:30. Would expect a lot more of the route to be crusty tomorrow. Great ski, hope others were able to get out!
