Collapsing
isolated

Went up phantom trees from main Alpental lot. Widespread surface hoar noted in the shaded trees left of Alpental falls. We were expecting some melt freeze crusts but instead found mostly unconsolidated medium density powder. On S facing aspect above 5000’ we noted old roller balls and sun effect. Took the slot to thunder creek where snow was much more variable. Isolated collapsing of the skin track noted when ascending N facing thunder creek exit. By 2pm the upper slopes of phantom trees had considerable warming with dinner plate size roller balls coming down from the slopes above. Noticeable inversion in the Alpental valley below
