See photos. This avalanche did have the possibility for burial as it appeared to entrain the recent new snow. But what are the chances of being hit crossing that point? Russian roulette anyone?
Avalanche
A natural avalanche pulled out from cliff band rocks climbers left of the 'thru to blue' couloir and ran approx. 400 verticle feet. This occurred sometime between 1st and 2nd lap and crossed the standard skin track route traverse to the couloir. Not wanting to be exposed to just such a hazard, l placed my skin track early climbers right (like i always do). This ski track placement for the most part keeps the skin track out of the main avy paths below the morrain and rocky terrain. It also keeps the skin track 'speed bumps' out of the ski lines, cuts down on switch backs and allows for good group separation on long traverse lines. While not entirely out of avy exposure, that line reduces exposure which, as mainly a solo traveler, is an important consideration. Having observed recent loading of that couloir on Saturday from the Blue Peak side entry, I stayed out of the couloir.
