0-1" on road to Marmot Pass TH. 0-6" of Cascade concrete up to 3825' where we transitiones to snowshoes due to change in surface support. @5100' With snowshoes swimming up to our waist for 200'. Near treeline we started encountering significantly wind effected snow. At 5300' low angle wind drifted snow had significant cracking (8" deep, 12" propagation). Hand sheers were looking bad. Wind loading event came from the S, large cornices seen on ridge to Iron overhanging N aspects. We had planned to dig an unhopeful snowpit at 6200' where terrain steepened but somewhat lucky, somewhat planned, right as we gained the faint ridge at 6200' the S windward side of the ridge did not harbor enough snow to be concerned of slides or connected terrain. There we switched to crampons. No current or prev avalanches seen. Bluebird day with very little wind until 2pm when visibility deteriorated. 20F at summit. No natural roller balls today
