Quick report

It was a great adventure up to Hannegan peak today. While there weren't many new avalanches out there in a decreasing snowpack, there were a few recent and ongoing wet avalanches in the area, including glides. Snow cover continues to decline, with snow lines mostly in the 4500 to 5000 foot range, and even inconsistent or no snow found up to 6000 feet along some ridgelines. In our area, Hannegan Pass and Peak, snow showed up rather abruptly at 4600 feet, but it was rather inconsistent until hitting continuous snow at 5200 feet. In general I measured around 2 to 4 feet of snowpack(80-150cm) along the Hannegan Peak ridgeline at about 5700 feet with localized drifts to 150cm+. North aspects hold the best and strongest snowpack currently, and there are still some cornices hanging around. Given temperatures were warmer and our late arrival in the early afternoon, the firm melt forms had softened at least 4 to 6 inches, which it was possible to kick of a few small rollerballs and a few slush avalanches when glissading down. Near the very top of the peak ~ 6200 feet my max elevation. The snow stayed more firm a little longer with some wind.

Mostly sunny with increasing thin high clouds through the day, giving way to warming and thicker high clouds in the afternoon. Even with the increase in cloud cover, the snow continued to warm with the temperature increase. Winds were mostly light, with a few gusts near the top.

We observed several glide cracks on Mount Sefrit(north aspect) and a large glide avalanche (D2) released during the return to the trailhead.
