Camas

Parked at 4600' on the road. Toured to 8k. Breakable crust to about 6500' where it was buried by enough soft snow to ski alright. Wind affect was widespread on the ridge with small pockets of cracking wind slabs. We dug on a north aspect 8000' with no propagating results. Snowpack was 140cm deep, with the primary layer of concern being a small wind slab above a melt freeze crust and near surface facets. Mid and lower pack appeared to be rounds and very dense wind hardened snow. Not much of a density or grain size change at the base of the snowpack either. No failures in any of our tests below 40 cm down. Wind was light and precipitation was light throughout the day. Skiing was ok but wind affected and solar aspects had old breakable crusts. Could use a refresh to improve ski conditions,
