Quick report
Crusts were the name of the game today. Most of these crusts were supportable to skis, yet varied in thickness depending on aspect (more info in the snowpack section below). We found small-grained facets forming above and below all crusts observed today.
Riding and sliding conditions were challenging due to the variable nature of crusts/windboard/scoured surfaces and relatively flat light.

Moderate N winds blowing throughout the day transporting the little snow left to move. Light (S1) snowfall midday that broke up with hints of blue sky in the afternoon.
Snowpack
Lots of crusts to be found out there!
- W-SW-S-SE-E aspects had supportable (if not unbreakable) surface melt-freeze crusts 2+cm thick
- NE aspects had a barely-breakable wind-polished melt-freeze crust on many slopes with small pockets of wind-board mixed in
- NW aspects had one or two breakable melt-freeze crusts and sugary near-surface facets in the upper 15cm of the snowpack
- N aspects harbored pockets of soft snow above 8600', with wind-board and faint, thin crusts buried 5~10cm below the surface
