Quick report
HS ranged from 50-70cm below 7k. A supportable rain/wet snow crust from mid week extended at least up to 7k. By shortly after noon S and SE aspects with a bit of angle softened up nicely. Besides that surfaces were pretty icy and firm, though textures were smooth. Boot and ski pen were minimal. The rest of the snowpack was brick like, or dense foam at the softest.
Avalanche
We could see a large debris pile below the Kautz Headwall. Without good optics I couldn’t tell how recent it was, or see specifics to tell what kind of avalanche it was. I could hear a fair amount of rockfall and water ice breaking up and falling down in the direct sun and warm temperatures.
