Hogsback - Upper White River Glacier - 200 Turns/ZZ Canyon View - Little Zigzag Canyon
Quick report
Sunny but slightly cooler and windier conditions made for very efficient and enjoyable, crampon-less skinning all the way up to 10.6K’ on Hogsback. Except for old previously documented avys in the crater, noticed nothing new and heard no instability/rockfall either (in the crater environs from 1ish - 2:15pm). Ski from Hogsback above fumarole through White River Headwall and Glacier (8400’ exit oppty) was very stable and fun. After ski traverse, 200 Turns down to 6K’ ZZ Canyon overlook was also surprisingly smooth down and back up (except when stepped out of skis). Evidence of significant melt in ZZ Canyon (avys off MSHC West, rollerballs off MSHC East) from last week (initially thought wet slabs but no obvious debris deposit at bottom). Also lots of east facing cornice fall in Lil ZZ Canyon (w a bit of quickly arrested trigger from drop off). Sand Canyon sneak back to Timberline and Alpine Trail to Summit Ski Area sticky (better in recent snowmobile tracks), but coverage still good.
