Quick report
Did a quick tour up the Commonwealth to the west-facing open slopes below Kendall Peak. Started off under overcast skies with calm winds and light snow showers, which turned to sunbreaks on the way out. 10cm of new snow on a firm crust below roughly 4700', with excellent riding conditions above that elevation, and generally bad riding below. A pit at 4922' on a W aspect found a right-side-up snowpack. CTE (BRK) on a layer 15cm down, presumably the 2/27, indicated by the black crystal card in the attached pit profile, and CTH (RP) down 39cm, possibly the 2/24, indicated by middle blue crystal card. Decomposing facets above the layer down 46cm. These layers were otherwise not reactive. No signs of recent avalanches, but there was plenty of debris below exposed rock faces. Would not be surprised to find a thin sun crust on open slopes tomorrow, when the sun came out while I was exiting, it was quite warm and softened the upper few cm of the snow pack quickly.
