Incredible day for a sunrise...and to ski before the snow crusts on solars. After skiing at Snoqualmie Pass on south, I wanted to see how the Icicle fared, and it wasn't all that well in the last two storms. HS 95cm at 5100' on south...that's nearly 65 cm less than this time last month at the same location. The January Drought inversion has preserved lowland snow, but anything with a steep angle and sun is cooked down to the Ceanothus and logs. In the upper snowpack, there's a faint suncrust from 4-5 Feb under 5 cm of blower. Below the crust is faceting, fist hard 1/31 storm snow over the JDL interface. At this location, the JDL crust had facets above, but was welded to 15 cm deep after sitting in the last Jan inversion.
Avalanche
Seems like a natural wind slab took out the upper Cannon Couloir. Plenty of relic dry loose from tree bombs on south and skier triggered D1 dry loose on northeast
