Quick report
Adding to the other Mt St Helens report from 12/10/2024: There were tracks and debris from several avalanches (12/9 or 12/10?) that appeared to have been triggered by cornice failures on the steep east aspect of Monitor ridge mostly above 7000'. Two dropped 200-400 feet but didn't entrain enough new snow to travel the full length of the steep slope. Still bad news if you'd been there. In the early morning hours, between 4500 and 5500', there was a firm crust 2-3" deep that was very weakly bonded to the softer new snow below. As I traveled up the ridge, cracks would propagate 3-4 feet from my snowshoes and plates of crust would come free and slide down the slope. Fortunatley the crust became very thin or absent on the bigger and steeper slopes above 5500'. It became warm enough by mid-day that the crust dissapeared.

Adding to the other Mt St Helens report from 12/10/2024: Debris from several small avis that probably ran 12/9 or 12/10. Firm but poorly bonded crust in early morning treeline to 5500'.
