Observation of natural avalanche on NE aspect from cornice failure

Rapid increase in temperature throughout day

Snowpack

CTH22 on decomposing facets below melt freeze crust. Light wind crust on surface. Storm snow 124-120 cm, F resistance. Snow particles, F resistance 120-105 cm. Rounded particles 105-95 cm. Melt-freeze crust at 90 cm. Decomposing facets 89-85 cm. Decomposing facets and basal facets of various density 85 to 0 cm. Incline 29 degrees, sky O, precip nil, Wind C. No hand lens available to make crystal obs. Observed settlements in treeline between 2000 and 2300m. On face of Quartz at 2660 m observed shooting cracks, snow pack was shallow, mostly facets with rime/ice layer on rocks at base on snow pack. More settlements observed around Mosquito creek on ski out. Our observations throughout the day did not match our compression test or the avalanche forecast. Turned around before reaching summit of Quartz.
