- <p>A few lingering windslabs should keep ya on your toes if your getting up high into specific terrain. Smooth rounded pillows, and firm hollow-sounding slabs were the warning signs for the windslab hazard today. We were able to trigger small D.5-1 avalances on the east half of the compass at upper elevations. Small, but enough to take the rug out from under you. </p> <p>Still tons of early season hazards out there underneath our early season pack. Whethere were on a track, or skiing and riding, i'm keeping rocks, stumps and whatnot at the top of the hazard list. </p>
Skiing and riding conditions have been stellar with the right terrain selection. Grassy, smooth, upper elevations slopes with little consequence of terrain continue to provide the goods.
Today's powder is tomorrows weak-layer they say, and with high-pressure underway the snow surface has already begun to weaken. Im going to start paying attention to whats happening on the surface until we get our next shot of storms. That will give us a good idea of where potential avalanche hazard will live when we put some new snow on top!
