Quick Observation

Dug pits in the glades above the summer trail before reaching the slide path. Two compression tests both yielded hard planar failures (25&27). Extended column test similarly failed (27) but did not propagate. Failures were all on crust layer 27cm deep. Height of snowpack was 120cm. Depth hoar present at ground. Skied slide path first, crust layer was supportive for skiing and soft snow above made for good skiing. Continued to the burnt trees line from ridge top and enjoyed better ski quality there. Below the burn there was some variable breakable crust noted.
