Quick Observation

Since the dump of snow Wednesday night the surf's been up in sheltered trees. Elliot Glades had ~20cms of light powder on the approach & the runs. The runs got deeper with elevation gain (ski pen 40cm at times) and had surprisingly little wind effect right to their tops--just a little pressed at TL but still deep, soft, and bottomless turns. However, climbing above TL, and into the alpine, it was windy from the ENE. Checking out the ridge leading up to Elliot Knoll and looking towards the long approach to the summit of Elliot, there is a menu of cross-loaded wind effect fare to sample from bullet proof slab, soft slab, large breakable pillows with deep low density snow as their fillers, waves of sastrugi... There was widespread whumpfing in open, flat areas BTL which went off like fireworks on the ski out...sounded like jets underfoot. The new snow is bonding well with previous surfaces as there was no cracking & no avalanches observed. Broke trail up the road approach, up Run 9, skied out Run 9A, those are the only tracks. It's ripe.
