Bijoux Falls

Day 2 AST2 Great day of riding in Bijoux bowl area. Found good powder at lower treeline elevations. Upper alpine was wind scoured and noticeable wind loading occurring on NE slopes. Some loose dry point releases below cornices on steep unsupported features . Some sled triggered wind slabs size .5 were initiated but did not show propagation. . We rode 47km of relatively technical snowmobiling and covered a lot of ground and found generally stable conditions even on steeper terrain . Pow was good in the lee, every other aspect was quite wind affected. Two surface Hoar layers are reactive to testing on compression tests. Down 15 cm from the surface we had a CTE 5 on Surface Hoar Down 45cm from the surface we had a CTH 5 on another Surface Hoar layer that appears to be rounding under the loupe. Extended column tests did not provide results , only progressive compression of the upper snowpack. ECTX
