Morning tour up Mount Fernie. 1550m on NE slope: cracking and whumphing, resistant planar handshear down 20 cms on buried surface hoar, small avalanche triggered on skin track switchback 1730m on E slope: easy to moderate planar handshear on 5-10 cm surface hoar down 20 cms Riding was generally great, there was little wind effect on the 12/14 storm snow, but variable surface hoar on desired aspects convinced us to change plans.
