Quick Observation

Rode firebreak today. Toured to the lookers right into another cleared area. As we traversed, the snowpack changed to become slabby and wind effected. Thought we heard some whumpfing but not 100%. Overall, found some powder with a hard layer on top but still made for good skiing.

Snowpack

Thought we heard whumpfing, not 100%. Did ECT and CT. CT3 10cm layer from wind loading failure. CT23 40cm planar on top of thin crust. Slid forward about 2 inches ECTN3 - same 10cm layer. ECTN23 - same 40cm layer. No propagation. Had a group member jump above the ECT block with skis on. Eventually was able to make the block move at a 80cm deep layer with facets. Considerable effort. We agreed the snowpack had some weakness but overall was strong and only triggered after significant effort. 40 and 80cm layers appear to be the challenge in the area currently. 80cm layer is quite hard to trigger but if triggered could lead to some pretty big slides.
