Quick Observation

We found 3-5cm of moist surface snow from valley bottom to 1800m, this new snow was overlaying a recently formed melt freeze crust. Above 1800m the snow quality improved and the near surface crust tapered. While setting an up track on a South aspect at 2200m we experience two large whumphs. We decided to dig a test profile (SEE PHOTO). We suspect the whumphs were failing on the Feb 16 crust down 30cm. An ECT from the test profile produced hard results on the same interface.
