Quick report
-Traveled above Leigh Lake, into Blackwell Glacier basin, and up A Peak. -No recent avalanches or any signs of instability observed. -Weather was mostly clear above the valley fog with bright sunshine and light westerly winds. -Noted a few several days old D1 loose snow debris piles on sunny aspects above 5500' and some glide cracks on rock slabs below the Bockman/Snowshoe saddle. -Snowpack surfaces are getting moist on sunny aspects and crusting over at night. Surface snow on shaded aspects is composed of mostly facets with some minor surface hoar growth. -Plenty of old wind slabs above 5500'. These were unreactive to ski cuts. -Snow that has accumulated on top of the early December crust seems to have bonded well. -About a foot of snow at Leigh Lake with depths thinning fast below there. -Terrain above 6000' was holding about 1-3 feet of snow with the deeper accumulations found on the easterly, wind-loaded aspects. Snowpack was thinner on the scoured terrain such as the ridge crests and upper elevation westerly slopes.
