Quick report
Took sleds up fall creek road to south east facing low angle slopes directly south of 1st Roman Nose Lake. Skied treed low angle terrain in that zone. Fall Creek road: sled can fit under the gate if someone lifts it. No signage to indicate the area is closed for access, lots of tracks up the road. Road is ungroomed and fairly bumpy. Lots of thin spots with creeks but all passible. Lots of blowdowns, a couple are a little tricky to get over. Tank trap at 4500’ is a bit of a mess, kudos to the sledders who impressively hit it as a road gap. You can ride around it up the ditch though. We decided to just park the sleds and skin from there because we’re skiers and we need exercise. Temperatures the entire day were on the edge of freezing if not above freezing. Snow was very wet and high density. Difficult to get enough snow up in the tunnel to keep things cool even with ice scratchers down. Per usual this season, snowpack really starts above 5500’. We kept the skiing < 25 degrees. No pits dug, we kept the skiing super conservative, we trust the IPAC report. 2-3” of high density new snow sat on top a thin sun crust which was noticeable on the ascent but not noticeable on the descent. Snowed roughly an inch while we were touring up there. Snowed down to ~3500’, was lightly sprinkling in the Fall Creek Parking lot. Last few miles of the Fall Creek road were noticeably thinner on the exit.
