Quick report
We toured up Blackmore today. A huge thank you to everybody, who helped cutting the trees and clearing the trail!
The snow coverage on the trail is now much better compared to the last time we came up here (early December). However, the snow was wet until ~8300 ft, which made our skins gloppy once we reached drier snow.
We dug a pit at ~8600 ft and found that the persistent weak layer is still there. We didn't get an ECT result on the persistent weak layer, but it still can be triggered from a more shallow spot or with new load. Our second pit at ~9800 ft told a slightly different story: We got some ECTNs in the upper slab layer and propagation on the bottom weak layer (ECTP30 and ECTP 27). To test the persistent weak layer further, we did a Propagation Saw Test (PST) and the results were PST35/120@34 and PST40/120@34. The snowpack structure is very similar to what we found yesterday above Hidden Lakes at Portal Creek.
