At 2000ft we recorded 138cm of total snow. We observed widespread collapsing throughout the day. We avoided all avalanche terrain and stuck to simple terrain due to the poor stability of the snowpack. While gaining the knob of center ridge, our loudest and most prominent collapse of the day included a notable drop in elevation of people in our tour group ~ 10 cm. Pro 1 course dug 3 pits on Center Ridge knob at 1965ft, on a N facing slope, at 1150 on 20260113. All pits got similar results on the faceted layer under the Thanksgiving crust (54cm top down). Results were: CT14SC @ 54cm, ECTP16 @54cm, PST 30/100 END @54cm. This layer is our layer of concern. Through travel tests, we found the Thanksgiving crust is widespread. The widespread collapsing, travel tests and propagation in all three pits, gave us confidence in our decision making to stick to simple terrain.
Avalanche
On our tour up we observed multiple recent avalanches on the N facing slope of Sunburst. SS, U, R1, D1, O, Tincan creek, 1600ft, S, 20260113 - observed multiple avalanches on Tincan creek wall. See attached photos.
