Dug two snowpits on the N face on Tri Tip (2500 ft elevation) where variability was noted with poles in a slight valley/aspect change (first due N, second slight NE facing). On N facing pit, CT failed at 18 , ECTX, and the deep facet layer (presumed Valentine's day layer) crumbled in hand. 90 cm snow depth total in this pit. The appearance in this layer and failure of CT made us decide to not continue in an exposed area on Tri Tip. For curiosity sake, we dug a second pit on the NW microcosm where snow deposition had occurred, CTX and ECTX and Valentine's day layer was much more solidified in this spot. Fascinating to see two pits variability side by side; not super inspiring for continued travel. Remainder of afternoon we witnessed wind and cross loading on the N aspect of Tri Tip from Tenderfoot ridge.
