Pit on the northeast shoulder of Colorado at apx 2700’ A now compressed layer of wet snow from the recent storms failed on isolation on the thick melt freeze crust from two weeks ago, 14-16” down. There was still liquid water underneath this layer mixed with melting round grains. The layer was non-reactive in pit tests due to 2 thinner wet heat crusts in the top of the snowpack. Once I isolated the new crusts that are up above however, the buried slab layer slid like an ice cube on a hot metal tray. This layer was not observed on NW aspects at similar elevations.
