Quick report
I had not been out since the most recent storms, so objectives for the day were to see how the snowpack was settling with the new snow, and hopefully score some fun pow pow. The former was achieved, the latter was kinda achieved... but always nice to be in the mountains. Throughout the tour we experienced a breakable melt freeze crust BTL and NTL on most aspects on open and exposed features, and cold powder in the shaded areas. ATL on east and north aspects was a combo of stiff but breakable crust and 10cm of loose powder sitting above a firm wind crust. Fun to try and link together the powder and avoid those crusty bits for the ride down. By 1500 the BTL snow was hot and mushy, but surprisingly no new wet loose slides or signs of them on the same features we observed older wet loose on the way up. Dug a pit to see if we could initiate any propagation on a wind loaded, north facing slope at 10,000'. HS 340cm. The snowpack was well consolidated going from fist hard at surface to 4F to 1F in the top 150cm. ECT results gave us ECTM sudden collapses in the first 10cm on both tests, but nothing more. Progressed to a deep tap ECT targeting the crust layer 60cm down and got nothing!! (ECTX)
Avalanche
Saw numerous D1 point release wet loose slides and phat rollerballs around Lake George and Tj Lake on the East and South faces... none from today, though.
