Quick report

I went to some low-hanging fruit for an afternoon tour.  Surface conditions were better than expected, and I found minimal wind effect below 9400 feet.  Looking around at the higher mountains, evidence of the strong to extreme NE winds last night was all around. I found enjoyable, settled powder skiing all the way back to the road.

Snowpack

I stopped to run tests on the 1/1 crust @:

  • 8400 ft, E aspect. HS 140 cm. ECTN10 @120 cm. ECTX.
  • 9300 ft, NE aspect. HS 150 cm. ECTN8 @132cm. ECTX.

The 1/1 rain crust is present at all aspects and elevations that I investigated. I did not find any instabilities on it at this time.  I noticed near-surface faceting on all of the protected snow.
