Quick report
- Cracking
- widespread
We made a mid-day tour from Independence Bowl Parking lot to the far eastern corner of Rae-Wallace Bowl to Corner Pocket. Beautiful sunny day with calm air. The snow surface was severely wind-tortured with a hard breakable crust for almost the entire tour. Encountered stiff non-collapsing crust as we ascended the steeper slopes of the terminal moraine where ski edges would not hold. This is ski-crampon terrain. Upon descent, we found a few inches of recycled powder below the terminal moraine and above the parking lot which made for a few nice turns.
Cracking was widespread, but did not propagate--it remained under our skis.
