Quick report
Our party toured and skied southern-eastern facing aspects in the BWRA today. The Eastern facing aspects are holding powder from the most recent storm. Southern facing aspects are a mix of crusted snow with pockets of windblown powder. We dug a mitt pit and and conducted some pole tests and came to the conclusion that there is a nice powder layer about 4 to five inches thick with a consolidated layer directly below it.
Avalanche
A mixture of wind loading and new snow from this weekends storm resulted in a slab avalanche on this Eastern facing aspect in the BWRA. It’s unknown if it was triggered by a human or natural. The crown ranges from 6 ft to about 1ft in height (see image #2) and between 100-120ft long. Debris field is roughly 150ft wide. The debris field is still soft leaving our party to believe it occurred within the last 24 hours.
