Quick report

We observed a plethora of conditions today ranging from soft newly faceted snow surfaces from recent cold, clear and calm weather to supportable old wind slabs, and breakable crust.  The goal of today was to move through a lot of terrain, dig multiple quick hand pits, measure height of snow (HS) in a few locations, and find the best snow available.  Numerous parties skied/rode lots of terrain over the past several days without triggering any slab avalanches. We observed two small dry loose sluffs on steep SW aspects at 4800' that likely occurred sometime during the last several days. Not surprisingly, the recent cooler weather has contributed to improved riding conditions in many locations. The biggest hazard still remains shallowly buried rocks. 

No cracking, collapsing or recent avalanches were observed today. We observed two small dry loose sluffs on steep SSW aspects at 4600' that likely occurred over the weekend.

Despite the lack of recent snow, today was a glorious day in the sunshine with calm to light winds out of the north, temps in the 20s (and warmer than town), and clear skies that began with an epic sunrise.

Snowpack

We dug on NW, East, and SW aspects between 4500-4800' today.  Height of snow ranged from 2 feet in the shallowest locations to over 5 ft deep on previously loaded leeward aspects just below ridgeline above Dog Sled Pass. We got one ECTN result 30 cm down that failed on .5-1mm facets on a firm old 1F wind slab on the East aspect,32* slope at 4800'. Otherwise, no red flags were observed. Colder temps are promoting faceting and loosening of snow surfaces.
