I watched my ski partner release a small avalanche while skiing over a slight convexity on the south face of Mt. Wolverine (near Cathrine's Pass). He was not caught in the slide. The avalanche started at his feet and propagated to the his left and right about 8 feet in each direction, with the snow from the most recent storm sliding on the old snow surface. It ran for about 50 vertical feet to a place in the slope where the angle relaxed. This avalanche was probably not large enough to bury a person, but it definitely could have broken a leg if it had carried him through trees or over a rockband.
