Quick report

We traveled in the Lower Skooks lap track area observing snow surfaces. The very small amount of new snow that has accumulated over the rain crusts is faceting and would make a reactive interface if a new slab forms above. The rain crust in the area remains knife to ice hard. We turned around at 10,800ft because ski cramponing up skooks was not something we wanted to add to our list of accomplishments. Therefore, we didn't travel near, or observe areas, that would have weaker persistent weak layers on the old bed surfaces near the ridgeline.

Snowpack

Ski and boot pen averaged 0 to 1cm. At 10,800ft we found up to 5cm of faceted snow on the rain crust. The rain crust averaged 3 to 5cm and was K hard with some areas holding a layer of ice in the crust. The snow surface on lower angled slopes and ENE aspects was staying dry and seeing Radiation recrystallization, while NSF was growing on steeper NE to N facing slopes. 

At 10,000ft on a NE-facing 35-degree slope, the HS was 120cm. The 2/11 interface was continuing to gain strength (1.5 to 2 FCxr), averaging 4F+ hard, with thin layers of slightly softer facets in the layer below. Here, the 2/11 interface was down 50cm under a 1F to P hard slab. ECTX. CTM SC a few cm's below the 2/11 interface.
