- <p>I'm putting the persistent weak layer above the loose storm snow. Even though it seems to be sitting dormant right now, the buried depth hoar is still there in all areas holding old snow, even those that ran during the Thanksgiving cycle causing a poor snowpack structure. I suspect with additional water weight or a large enough trigger, we could easily see this layer being re activated. In addition, there is still potential to trigger this layer in a shallow trigger scenario where weak snow is closer to the surface and bringing down a large deadly slab.</p> <p>Athough winds have been light overnight and today, we found some shallow wind slabs from yesterdays AM winds on northly ridgelines now hidden below a few inches of storm snow.</p>
Dry loose precip and decomposing precip sitting on older near surface facets. No evidence of new snow soft slab, easy to move fast moving but isolated sluff not fanning out much. Evidence of older faceted snow buried 1 meter plus.
