Our first venture into the Mear Lake area for the season! Today was mild, -2 degrees in the parking lot and light winds from the SW. Mostly cloudy through the day with a couple patches of well appreciated sunshine!
We observed no new avalanches and no signs of instability on our travels. Depth of snow at Mear Lake is 65 cm. This consists of 30 cm of settled snow above a supportive crust, and 5-10 cm of preserved facets at ground.
Snow coverage is minimal from the staging area up to the warming hut. Many exposed rocks, stumps and logs made us extra cautious while riding today. We will be adding snow dances into our pre-season equipment checks!
