Cold morning start, about -12°C at 1000m and warming to -6°C later in the day. At 1000m there was roughly 20cm of snow with a breakable crust about 5cm down. Snow depth was about 40cm at 1600m and increased to 100cm of light powder over a denser base above 1900m. Lots of hoar frost below 1600m. No cracking or whumphing was observed higher up. When in the alpine, we counted at least 10 glide cracks on surrounding mountains where the snow was covering slabby rock. Cornices were building on E, NE, and SE aspects.
