On the ridge, in the east-facing bowl, and in the mellow north-facing basin from the knob above the lake to the west the snow was excellent - boot top+ low-density pow which felt right side up. Lots of tracks all around an no signs of instability. But the snow in one of the north-facing lines off of the ridge leading towards Steep Peak (where the pin is dropped) the snow was spookier (see snowpack).
In a quick compression test just below the ridge at the top of a north-facing line we got an easy failure ~40 cm down on a layer of facets which seemed like it could have propagation potential (cut a block ~50cm across and when the weak layer was brushed with a hand on one end the layer immediately collapsed across the entire block).
