Very wintery day for spring.... Winds sustained moderate from the NE. Snowing and blowing all day <1cm hr. New snow 7cm overnight. Alpine temps hovered at -4 all day with freezing levels around 1500m. Very overcast day with almost zero visibility all due to fog, winds and blowing snow. No new avalanche activity seen due to terrible visibility although we did hear avalanche activity on the Dixon glacier, adjacent to our location. The snowpack is very well settled. Test profile at 2300m on SW asp. 26 deg slope. 305cm snowpack. 35cm Foot pen. CTM (sc) down 40cms on old snow and very small surface hoar. Snow above this failure did not show propagation tendencies at this location. The mid-pack is very consolidated and dense. See the video at www.facebook.com/ridevalemount for 3m text pit and the basal weaknesses below.
