Quick Observation

NW outflows in the strong to extreme ranges have heavily scoured, and reverse loaded many areas yesterday and today, and leaving a highly variable distribution in the Alpine. Up to 10cm of new snow overnight, plus a bit from the weekend buries the Dec 14 raincrust/surface hoar down 15cm. This layer is quite touchy, but does not have much of a hazard on it yet - Except in the windloaded areas. Down 45 cm we found the Nov 23 crust layer, and near the base of the snowpack the Oct crust is still present. No results on the Nov or Oct layers with an extended column test, but the snowpack structure is not to confidence inspiring - this deep layer is sitting dormant for the time being. Snowdepth was 1M in a sheltered North aspect, just below treeline at 1500m. We were able to easily cut some small windloaded pockets, and suspect anything larger would have been the same. Otherwise, no new avalanche obs, and no other signs of instability in area
