Quick report
Toured in the smithbrook drainage on solar slopes below and near treeline hoping to find stable powder. We dug many quick handpits to check out the interface at the base of the new snow. We found uneven, soft melt freeze surfaces, but no firm crusts or weak snow. We proceeded to ski south facing avalanche terrain and encountered no signs of instability.
