Quick Observation

Great conditions today on Evelyn 9a. Several groups had already been down both 9 and 9a, however they were kind enough to leave some for us weekend warriors. A.M. valley bottom temps -24C warming to -5C at treeline. Strong, gusty ESE winds have cleared much of the snow from the trees above 900 m and, in the alpine, is transporting snow from this week's storm with strongly expressed sastrugi on several aspects. Evidence of a size 1.5-2 (?) slab avalanche was seen along a ridge to the north and several large lose dry along the rocky face to the south. Skiing the gentle ridge above the runs back to treeline shooting cracks were noted on the lee side of small features where wind deposits were deeper. Below treeline no instabilities were noted and the skiing was excellent.
