As part of an aiare 2 course, 7 of us ventured into Huntington Ravine today and saw a lot of avalanche activity from the new snow we received over the last couple of days. We observed crown lines at the top of South Gully, at the base of the ice in Odell’s, and below the ice bulge in Central. Snow above the main trail was hard and hollow sounding. Together with our observations and the considerable danger rating at the middle elevations we decided to retreat to Hermit Lake and check out Hillman’s Highway. Once we arrived we observed a large skier-triggered avalanche in the area of the Lip/Sleuce and an older crown line between the Chute and the Lip that had been refilling throughout the day. After watching several people start to boot up Hillman’s we made the decision to go ski some soft snow in the trees.
